Tenzin is a young student of twenty-three who works in the woodcarving
section. He was born in Ladakh, a culturally Tibetan Himalayan
region of India, where he lived with his family before starting his studies at
Norbulingka. He arrived in Dharamsala at the end of 2013. His choice to
study carving comes from his father. His father is a wood-carver and and it
is thanks to him that he has been interested from a very early in this
profession. Tenzin has decided to study in Norbulingka, because this
institute offers to him a lot of interesting opportunies. Many people here
speak Tibetan. Tenzin doesn't speak Tibetan but Ladakhi, which is a
different dialect of the same language group, so sometimes it is difficult to
communicate. But, now, he has made friends here. His friends study
thangka painting. Currently, some of his family lives in Ladakh, and some
in Manali. At the end of his studies, he would like to return in Ladakh to
work in woodcarving with his father.

Tenzin est une jeune étudiant de vingt-trois ans. Il est né au Ladakh, où il vivait avec sa famille jusqu'à son entrée à Norbulingka pour ses études. Il est arrivé à Dharamsala à la fin de l'année 2013. Son choix d'étudier la sculpture sur bois lui vient de son père, lui-même sculpteur ,qui l'a très tôt intéressé à cette profession. C'est ainsi que Tenzin a décidé de suivre des études, et à Norbulingka en particulier, parce que cette institut lui offrait d'intéressantes opportunités. Ici, beaucoup de personnes parlent le tibétain. Tenzin ne le parle pas, il parle le ladakhi, et a quelques notions d'hindi. Il trouve donc que, quelquefois, la communication est difficile avec les autres membres de l'institut. Cependant, il s'est tout de même fait plusieurs amis, qui, eux, étudient la peinture de thangkas. Actuellement, sa famille vit toujours au Ladakh, et certains membres vivent à Manali. A la fin de ses études, Tenzin souhaite regagner le ladakh et retrouver sa famille, où il pourra alors travailler dans la sculpture avec son père.
