Niyma Gyelpo is a thirty-eight-year-old master artist. He was born
in Tibet, in the U-Tsang district. In 1998, he left Tibet to go to live in
Sikkim. He left alone, his family staying there. When he first came to India,
he didn't have any work. The Norbulingka founder, Kalsang Yeshi, and his
wife, Kim Yeshi, invited him to come to Dharamsala and join Norbulingka.
So, in December 1995, he joined the institute. He learned thangka painting
for six years. After his studies, he became a professional artist, and now,
since 2013, he is the master of the wood painting section. That's why he
wants to continue to live here. Nyima Gyelpo thinks that it is important to
preserve Tibetan art, because he it was destroyed to a large degree inside
Tibet. And it is important to show this art, and the Tibetan culture to the
rest of the world because many people don't know anything about Tibetan

Niyma Gyelpo est donc une figure de la réussite dans le milieu de l'art tibétain, et notamment à l'Institut Norbulingka.
