Tenzin Choeyang is a professional thangka painter of twentyseven

the pretty city of Mysore. His parents, his father from U-Tsang and his
mother from Amdo, fled Tibet to settle in South India. He joined
Norbulingka when he was eighteen years old, because this institute was the
most famous for art. According to him, the perfect art is made in
Norbulingka. To be here, for Tenzin, it is a little like a dream. Indeed, he
says, thangka painting is his hobby. Moreover, his life here is enjoyable
because he his surrounded by his childhood friends who came here also. So
he wants to stay here to follow his practice. When we talk about art with
Tenzin, we realize he loves to talk about it. He thinks that the Tibetan art is
like scripture. He says, "Doing art is like praying." According to him,
although a lot of traditional art has been destroyed, many Tibetans are
trying to preserve it. Furthermore, he thinks it is very important that the
people of the world realize that Tibetan culture, like Tibetan art, is unique,
and it should not be confused with the Chinese culture.

Tenzin Choeyang est un peintre professionnel de thangkas âgé de vingt-sept ans. Il est né dans le sud de l'Inde, plus précisément dans la jolie ville de Mysore, dans l'Etat du Karnataka. Ses parents ont vécu au Tibet, son père étant originaire de la région de l'U-tsang, sa mère de l'Amdo. Ils ont fui le Tibet pour venir s'installer en Inde en tant que réfugiés. Tenzin a choisi de rejoindre l'institut Norbulingka à l'âge de 18 ans, considérant que cet institut était le plus réputé dans la pratique des arts. Selon lui, l'art dans son état le plus perfectionné se trouve ici. Etre ici, pour Tenzin, c'est un peu comme un rêve. En effet, la peinture de thangkas est sa passion. Il trouve sa vie ici très agréable, notamment puisqu'il est entouré de ses amis d'enfance, qui sont venus avec lui. Son désir actuel est donc de continuer à travailler ici. En parlant avec Tenzin, on se rend rapidement compte qu'il aime beaucoup évoquer l'art tibétain. Il pense que l'art tibétain est comme une écriture. Il dit aussi que " Faire de l'art, c'est comme prier." Selon lui, même si la Chine a détruit une grande partie des œuvres artistiques traditionnelles, beaucoup de tibétains sont prêts et engagés à préserver leur art et leur culture. De plus, Tenzin pense qu'il est très important que les personnes autour du monde réalisent que la culture tibétaine, comme l'art tibétain, est singulière, et qu'il ne faut en aucun cas la confondre avec la culture chinoise.
